Flatonia Football Coach Leaving
Just five days after his team lost in the third round of the football playoffs, Flatonia head coach and athletic director Chris Freytag has informed the school he plans to leave at the end of this semester.
Freytag has been a model of consistency and success at Flatonia where he has been the head coach and athletic director for the past 13 years.
He has an overall record of 82-65, has won at least one playoff game each of the last eight years, including four district titles. This year’s Bulldogs were district, bidistrict and area champs and went 11-2.
The Bulldogs had 12 key seniors on this year’s team which will be tough to replace next season.
Freytag is himself a Flatonia High graduate of 1995. The timing of this decision coincides with his youngest son Colt being a senior this year.
Freytag will have no shortage of other head coaching offers after his success at Flatonia, and he has been considered for other higher-profile jobs. He was actually a semifinalist for the 5A Port Neches-Groves opening last season.
Fayette County now has two head football coach openings, including the one at Schulenburg.
