Flatonia Falls to Ganado By One in Battle for District Runner-Up Spot

The inability to tack on extra points after their touchdowns really came back to bite Flatonia Friday.

The Bulldogs’ came away without any extra points after their last four touchdowns Friday in a 33-32 loss to Ganado.

Despite the problems, Flatonia was still in position to win the game thanks to a go-ahead touchdown run by Dayton Cliffe in the fourth quarter that put the Bulldogs up 32-27.

But Ganado’s Kyle Bures-Guerrero, who had four touchdown runs Friday, found Riley Hurt with a 50-yard touchdown pass that proved to be the gamewinner.

Flatonia’s Fidel Venegas ran for 129 yards and threw for 133. He ran for three touchdowns and threw for another, but it was not enough.

The victory clinches the second place seed in District 13 for Ganado (5-5 overall, 3-1 in district). They advance to play Ozona (5-5 ) in the first round.

Flatonia (4-4 overall, 2-2 in district), meanwhile, with the district’s No. 3 seed plays Johnson City (8-2) in the opening round of the playoffs. That game is 7:30 p.m. Friday at San Antonio’s Davenport High School Stadium

Johnson City is coached by former Flatonia head coach David Sine.
