Fayetteville Girls Beat RT-C; Improve to 5-0 in District

The Fayetteville girls are already the reigning state volleyball champs.

Now the Lady Lions are proving they are pretty tough to beat on the basketball court too.

The Lady Lions improved to 5-0 in district play and 15-7 overall with a 51-28 win at Round Top-Carmine Friday.

“I thought we got out and pushed the ball in the first half and that got us points in transition,” said Fayetteville head coach Marcus Sodek. “We didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for this season after being at state volleyball, but I couldn’t ask any more from these girls, they are working hard.”

Brooklyn Jaeger poured in 30 points and Emma Jurecka and Kayme Schley each added eight.

Round Top-Carmine was led by Tess Eilers, who scored 12 and Mallory Krause added nine.

The Cubettes were playing without head coach Catie Carney, who was out sick.

In her place, assistant Brock Marburger stepped up, and he said he was pleased with what he saw Friday.

“Fayetteville is a good team, with a lot of athletic girls,” Marburger said. “They are tough team to beat but I’m proud of our girls. Without their regular coach they came in and did their thing. They handled their routine and I’m proud of the way they competed and kept it close for much of the game.”

The Cubettes fell to 2-3 in district with the loss but are still very much in the playoff hunt.
