Fayetteville volleyball player Kayme Schley has produced in all aspects for the Lady Lions, putting up strong numbers in just about every stat category throughout this historic season.

She is second on the team with 274 kills this season and leads the team in aces with 126.

“Kayme is asked to do a lot for us, being a six-rotation player,” said Fayetteville volleyball coach Clint Jaeger. “She gained a lot of experience last year as a freshman and had to adjust quickly. She has improved quickly.”

In a recent game against McDade, she recorded 11 aces and 7 kills. Schley has also played a solid role on the defensive end as well, making her our choice for this edition’s Player of the Week.

Question: In what ways do you think you contribute to your team the most?

Answer: “I definitely think through supporting my teammates. I know I hit good and pass good, but I think it takes a lot more than that. Supporting them and motivating them, I think I contribute that way the best.”

Question: What’s it like to have this great of a season?

Answer: “It’s awesome. We never really had a season like this with a team like this before here. We all know we can be really good and we can make history this year, so it’s exciting, but it’s also a little nerve racking too. Not knowing what to expect, knowing that people expect a lot of you and they’re out to beat you. But it’s really fun and we’re having fun this season.”

Question: Who’s a teammate you hang out with the most and why?

Answer: “Probably Brooklyn (Jaeger). We live two seconds from each other. We’ve been best friends our whole lives, so we hang out with each other all the time because we’ve just been close forever.”

Question: What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Answer: “Definitely pumpkin pie. It’s always been my favorite and my grandma makes the best pumpkin pie there is.”

Question: If your life was based on a movie, which actress would you want to play you?

Answer: “Definitely Jennifer Aniston. I love her. She’s awesome. I love all the roles she plays, so I definitely want her to play me.”

Question: Where’s a place outside of town that you visit the most?

Answer: “Outside of town, I’d probably visit Houston or San Antonio the most with my show pigs. We go there all the time, so I love going there.”

Question: What colleges are you interested in?

Answer: “Texas A&M. If you ask anyone, it’s the only college I’ve ever wanted to go to, so I’m definitely going to go there after high school.”

Question: Would you rather text or call a person and why?

Answer: “Probably call someone. I just like talking rather than texting over the phone. I feel like it gets things across better.”

Question: What’s the best word of advice you’ve received?

Answer: “To not let what anyone else does affect me. Just live your own life, do your own thing, and move on with yourself.”

Question: If you had to be a spokesman for Fayetteville volleyball, what kind of message would you send?

Answer: I would let everyone know that this is a team they shouldn’t underestimate. We’re a good team. We’ve got good values, good support, and we’re going to go out this season and get things done. We’re going to do it as a team and we’re going to do it together.”

Schley’s attitude along with her willingness to fill the stat sheet are just some of the many key weapons for this legendary Fayetteville team.
