Fabre Takes LHS Swimming to New Heights

La Grange swimmer Celeine Fabre had herself a meet to remember November 12 in El Campo and made history while doing so. In the 200 yard individual medley event, Fabre broke the school record with a time of 2:59.26. The previous record was set at 3:10.65.

“Celeine is probably one of the easiest swimmers to coach,” said La Grange head swimming coach Gretchen Ledwik. “She always comes to swim practice and to meets with a positive attitude. She’s always willing to give it her all and it doesn’t surprise me that she broke our school record by a lot. I think she surprised herself that day. We were definitely both working towards that goal, I just wasn’t quite sure it was going to happen this quickly. It was a great swim. She had a great, positive attitude and really worked hard. She always works hard at practice all the time.”

Fabre’s record-shattering performance has given her the nod for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.

Question: What are the

main things a swimmer should focus on during a meet?

Answer: “Your attitude and staying positive. Not letting someone that’s faster be the reason you don’t try.”

Question: What were your thoughts during your recordbreaking performance?

Answer: “To keep pushing through.”

Question: How do you train for swimming?

Answer: “Endurance and stamina. Eat the right foods and stay healthy.”

Question: Who’s someone you look up to when it comes to swimming?

Answer: “Coach Ledwik”

Question: What kind of meals do you have before a meet?

Answer: “Salads, protein, meat, sometimes carbs. It depends on what you’re swimming.”

Question: Where’s a place you like to go hang out?

Answer: “Anywhere”

Question: What’s your favorite swimming stroke?

Answer: “Backstroke”

Question: Which do you prefer, Coke or Pepsi?

Answer: “Coke”

Question: What’s your Christmas movie of choice?

Question: How has La Grange helped you become a better athlete?

Answer: “Everyone here tries hard and I just try to fit in by sticking to that.”

With Fabre’s talent and will to come out on top, there’s a great chance we could see her name in school history yet again.
