Doyle Wraps Up Strong First Year of College V-ball

Lanie Doyle

Lanie Doyle has been gaining experience on the volleyball court. The La Grange High School graduate has played in 16 of 24 matches as a freshman for University of Dallas.

Listed on the roster as an outside and right side hitter, the 5-foot-9 Doyle said she has been playing mostly defensive specialist. “I sometimes go in for the outside hitter,” she said. “My strength has been playing back row more than front row.”

As of Oct. 27, she ranked fifth on the team with 2.03 digs per set and eighth in kills.

She had season highs of eight kills and 16 digs against St. Thomas, the match after she seven kills and 12 digs. “The main outside hitter was out,” she said. “I was trying to do my best and fill her shoes. It was super exciting.”

She has had six digs in one match and five in two others. “I’ve gotten a lot better in the back row,” she said. “Making sure I’m low on defense and not standing up.”

More women’s volleyball

Southwestern University freshman Erica Otto had two kills against Dallas. The right side hitter played for Schulenburg High.
