Domination Like Never Before
Lady Leps Beat Eastside 68-3
Lep Gym may have never hosted a game quite as lopsided as Tuesday’s.
The surging La Grange girls basketball team dominated Austin Eastside in every sense of the word in a 68-3 win for the Lady Leps.
La Grange improved to 22-7 overall and 6-1 in district.
Eastside fell to 2-5 in district.
To Eastside’s credit, the Lady Panthers never showed signing of quitting, but they had several early shots rattle in and out of the rim and didn’t score until 20 seconds left in the third quarter on a three-pointer by K. Leon.
La Grange led 41-0 at halftime and extended the lead to 55-0 before Eastside scored.
“It was a lopsided game but we got to work on a lot of different defensive looks,” said La Grange head coach Heath Golan. “It’s always nice to be able to work on things during games rather than just in practice.”
The Lady Leps’ night was highlighted by big scoring nights from some players who aren’t normally in the offensive spotlight.
Tori Harold led the team with 16 points and Emma Ehler added 11.
“Feels good to score points like that and it’s something I hope to get used to in the future,” Harold said.
Katelyn Allen and Camille Gonzalez scored 10 each.
Tuesday’s win gives La Grange more momentum heading into their biggest game of the year to-date, Friday’s game at Giddings against a Lady Buffaloes team that sits one game ahead of the Lady Leps in the district standings.
“Hopefully this built some confidence in them because Friday’s a big game,” Golan said. “We’re going to need a lot of people to contribute. Hopefully they can build on this.”
A month ago when those two teams played Giddings won 45-43.
“It’s a rivalry game, we just need to stay within ourselves, not turn it over,” Golan said. “Free throws hurt us last time we played them, we just need to be a little better on those and cut down on turnovers and we’ll have a chance.”
“Playing together and playing with more energy will help us,” Harold said.
