David Husmann Memorial Stadium in Schulenburg will be officially dedicated before the Schulenburg-Flatonia football game Friday night, Oct. 8.

Husmann, who built a high school football dynasty in Schulenburg in the 1900s, died on Dec. 18, 2020 at age 67. He led Schulenburg to back-to-back state titles in 1991 and 1992. His coaching career spanned over 40 years. He racked up more than 200 wins as head coach during that time, placing him among the State’s top high school football coaches of all time.

A fund was set up after Husmann’s death to collect money for renaming the stadium and erecting signage. The Shorthorns Forever Association managed the fund. A new lighted sign on top of the scoreboard will be in place before the game. The back of the scoreboard facing Hwy. 77 will also feature a sign honoring Husmann and the Shorthorns.

The dedication on Friday will begin at 7 p.m. Husmann’s widow Karen and his daughters Angie, Kristen and Bonnie will be recognized on the track. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
