Catching Up With Local Athletes at the College Level
Cross country standout Montserrat De Santiago is an All-American. The La Grange High School graduate placed 37th among 326 finishers in the NAIA National Championship 5K to earn the honor, given to the top 40.
The senior led Savannah College of Art and Design by finishing in a personal best of 18 minutes, 8 seconds.
More women’s cross country Taylor Limbaugh contributed to Texas Tech University’s scoring at the NCAA Mountain Region 6K. The Schulenburg High product finished fifth among the team’s entries in her first time competing in the regional race.
Brenna Iannelli placed sixth among Texas Lutheran University entries in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship 6K. Out of La Grange High, she was 48th among 69 who finished.
Softball
Abigail Dela Rosa is a freshman outfielder for St. Mary’s University. She competed for La Grange.
Flatonia High graduate Annie Charanza is a freshman for Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
Women’s track and field Krissalynn Henderson of Northwestern Oklahoma State University placed 13th in the 200-meter dash at the Bob Timmons Challenge. The La Grange alumna finished 18th in the 60 dash. She previously competed two years for Dodge City Community College.
Women’s volleyball
SAGU senior outside hitter Ava Myers is on the all-Sooner Athletic Conference first team. Formerly at Round Top-Carmine High, she averaged 3.72 points per set, third in the conference.
Football
Angelo State University tight end Cason Brown has been named to the all-Lone Star Conference first team for a second consecutive season. The past Shorthorn also was one of two Rams cited on the all-academic team. The graduate student finished with career highs of 13 receptions, 121 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.
DaKory Willis, who played for the Bulldogs, is on the all-American Southwest Conference third team. The Texas Lutheran University junior running back had 91 carries for 383 yards and one touchdown. He added career highs of 26 receptions and 144 yards and had one kickoff return of 39 yards.
Bravion Rogers is on the roster for January’s Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii. The La Grange High cornerback has committed to Texas A &M University.
Men’s track and field Gerald Rodriguez is a freshman middle distance runner for University of Texas at Tyler. He is a past Leopard.
