Bravion Rogers Makes It Official With Texas A&M

Very few athletes in the history of La Grange High School were as highly prized as Bravion Rogers, with seemingly every top college program in the nation offering the talented Leps cornerback a

scholarship. But College Station is Mr. Rogers’ future neighborhood.

Thursday Rogers officially celebrated his acceptance of a TexasA&M football scholarship in front of family, friends and faculty at Leps gym.

The signing marked what has been a whirlwind last few weeks for Rogers.

In early January he played in the Under Armor All-American Bowl in Orlando.

On Jan. 22 he played in the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii.

“It was beautiful every-where, the weather was 80 all week, we went to the beach, went to Pearl Harbor and got to see some Polynesian culture, saw some of the dances, ate a lot of white rice,” Rogers said.

Rogers played through injuries much of his senior season with the Leps, but he said he’s all better now.

“Playing in the bowl games, I was getting back in the groove,” he said. “I felt good all through every practice.”

Now he’s ready to hit the ground running for Texas A&M this fall. He said his goals include winning a spot as a freshman and then helping the Aggies to conference and national titles.

Rogers verbally committed to the Aggies last spring but then decommitted in the summer.

“When I decommitted, it really made me figure out where home was.,” Rogers said. “It allowed me to check out my other options, They (A&M coaches) were cool with it. They didn’t nag me about it. They stayed cool, let me go through the process and then I came back. Coach Jimbo (Fisher) told me to stick with the process and everything will fall into place for you.”

AfterA&M, could an NFL career be in his future like fellow Leps standout J.K. Dobbins? Outgoing La Grange football coach Matt Kates thinks so.

“From the time he was a young kid you knew Bravion’s athleticism was off the charts. For four years we utilized him doing so many different things (receiver, cornerback, quarterback, punter, running back). Now, getting to a big university where he gets to just be one of the corners in the room., the best is yet to come for him,” Kates said. “If you go to A&M, you have a chance (of going to the NFL). You look at the NFL landscape, every team has three cornerbacks on the field at any one time, sometimes four.

“He plays a position that is in unbelievable demand.”
