2022 State Track Meet Snapshots

It was a very busy state track meet Saturday for Round Top-Carmine senior Ilse Salinas. She won state bronze in the 1A long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 0.25-inches. She was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 35-feet, 9-inches. Then she was seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 12.74 and finally fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.64.

“It was stressful (doing four events). I surprised myself this year making it in four,” said Salinas, who is going on to study law at Texas A&M. “I worked really hard to get here. There are so many girls out there that don’t have this chance and I was blessed enough to have it in four events so I think that’s awesome.”

Fayetteville’s Brooklyn Jaeger won state silver in both the 100 meters (with a time of 12.61) and in the 200 meters with a time of (26.07). Miami’s Anna Hudson beat her in both races, setting new state 1A girls records in both races.

“I’m super proud of it. I didn’t think I would beat the girl from Miami. She’s a beast. My goal was to get a new PR (personal record, in the 200 meters) and I beat that by a lot,” Jaeger said.

Hudson, like Jaeger, is a junior so they may both be back fighting it out at state in the sprints again next year. – Jeff Wick
