A new local music group, “Strykly Country” will debut at Freyburg Hall Saturday, August 29 with music from 8 -11:30 p.m.

Schulenburg’s longtime musicians, Bruce Lebeda, Dennis Stryk, and Mike “Bubba” Olle have been performing music for decades.

Bruce first started in the 1980s with a group called “Kickback,” then ventured on to play with the “Velvets” from 1983 to 1988. Fifteen years ago, joined up with Byron Wren, Dennis Stryk, Chris Janca, and the late, David Machac to form “D’vine Testament” singing Christian music, and a few years later showing their versatility, became a classic country group known as the “Wrens & Friends.”

Mike Olle had joined both groups about two and a half years ago playing the drums. A self taught drummer, Bubba learned by playing drums in his parents basement at the age of eight on a k-mart drum set. At 10, his dad bought him the set of Ludwigs he still plays today.

Dennis Stryk while in high school, started his performing career in 1964 with the “Telstars.” In 1973 moved on to become the lead singer with “The Wild West.” Then in 1976, “Wildfire” for a few years.

Music was always a major part of his life, as he was the owner/operator of New Bielau dance hall from 1973 until 1995, having a number of the best bands in Central Texas perform. Since 2011, performing with “D’vine Testament and the “Wrens and Friends,” the three of us are moving on to the next chapter of performing with “Strykly Country,” playing the best of country music.”

Joining the group will be lead guitarist, Mark Lehmann of La Grange. He’s been with the Fayette County Country Opry for 25 years.

Dana Smith of New Braunfels plays the keyboards & fiddle. He plays with the Victoria Country Opry, and has backed up numerous recording artists, recently Michael Martin Murphy.

Randy Boyd of Victoria plays the steel guitar, and he has played in Nashville with many recording artists, and also is a member of the Victoria Country Opry.
