KJZT Society 31 Holds Quarterly Meeting, Plans Community Projects

On Aug. 17, the third quarterly social/meeting of KJZT Family Life, Society 31 St. Frances of Rome of La Grange was held at 4:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Heart Room at Sacred Heart Church. President Elizabeth Kallus led opening prayers especially remembering deceased members Bernice Vaclavik and Jill Stueber, after which the Pledges to the U.S. and Texas Flag were recited.

The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed, Treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, and bills were approved for payment. Secretary Marilyn Kothmann read several thank you notes and KJZT State Office correspondence.

KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report by Vice President Nicole Vasut showed six special birthdays and ten sympathies by Society 31, and 24 enrollments by individuals. Two cheer cards were sent; and a mass was given for the intention of each deceased member. Kallus gave the publicity and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary reports.

Unfinished business: District V Annual Social was hosted by Society 20 Cistern on July 12 at Robert’s Steakhouse in Flatonia. There were awards, membership pins, and a memorial service. Society 31 received the Platinum status award, member Jane Lewis of San Antonio received her 75-year membership pin, and deceased members were remembered. Members and their family attending from Society 31 were President Elizabeth Kallus, Secretary Marilyn Kothmann, Treasurer Barbara Eilert, District V Director Joy Kovar, Roy Kovar, Doris Lidiak, Phyllis Chavarria, Beatrice Sumbera and son David Sumbera, Jane Lewis and husband Rob, Lindsay Jess, Kylie Jess, and Caitlin, Bennett, and Beau Jess.

Under New Business, The Annual Social for the Society will be Thursday, Nov. 5, beginning at 4 p.m.at Sealand in La Grange. Discussed and approved were clergy Christmas presents, birthday present for Chaplain Fr. Chris Smith, the Community project of a Thanksgiving Basket for the Family Crisis Center, People Helping People projects for 2027, namely Catholic Schools Week at the end of January, Sacred Heart School Spring Festival plant wheel booth on April 4, and the quarterly social dates.

District V State Director Joy Kovar sent her message that the State Office has a position open, and rates are holding so there are no changes.

Attendance prize was won by Elizabeth Kallus and the meeting closed with the Memorare Prayer.
