Juneteenth Proclaimed by City of LG
La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery (center) signed and read a proclamation at Monday’s City Council meeting designating June 19 as Juneteenth in the City of La Grange. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the enslaved people of Texas were first informed of their freedom. On hand for the signing were Christy Johnson (left) and Gloria Ellis (right) of the La Grange Juneteenth Committee. The Committee is organizing a three-day Juneteenth Celebration from June 19-21 in La Grange including a Gospel music performance on Friday, June 19, at Randolph Rec Center starting at 5:30 p.m., a parade around the Courthouse Square Saturday, June 20, starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by community meal at the Randolph Center. Then on Sunday, June 21, there will be a community worship service at the Randolph Center starting at 2:30 p.m.
