Catholic Daughters Award Scholarships, Install New Officers at their May Meeting
Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, held its May 25 meeting at the Sacred Heart Parish Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Center. The evening began with an annual social at 6 p.m. and then the meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. with opening prayers, especially remembering recently deceased member Bernice Vaclavik for whom the Charter was draped. Following the Pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags, highlighted throughout the meeting were several presentations.
On behalf of the CDA Texas State Court, Elizabeth Kallus and Stacy Ryza, Court Annunciation No. 1962 Scholarship Committee Co-Chairmen, presented Texas State Court Memorial Scholarships to four winners the Court had sponsored. Elizabeth read the congratulatory letter from State Memorial Scholarship Chairman Rebecca Brown and introduced the winners while Stacy, scholarship committee member Brenda Seberger, and Regent Sherry Hebert awarded the scholarships to La Grange High School graduates, Ella Nygren $2,500, Elena Supak $2,000, Natalia Soto $1,500, and Faith Greenwood $1,000.
As a charitable project, members brought donations for AMEN food pantry and representative Mark Hebert was present to receive the items and a monetary donation from the Court. An annual monetary donation was made to the Court’s Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Roxanne Bailey, Sacred Heart Parish Business Administrator, accepted monetary donations to help defray the cost of t-shirts for Vacation Bible School, and for the RE and SHOCK programs.
Other notable monetary donations in April and May reflected in the treasury report were to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Plum Youth Program, St. Paul Catholic Church Smithville Youth Program, Sacred Heart Catholic School 6th Grade end of year social, La Grange ISD Project Graduation, Fr. Eddie Winkler’s 40th Ordination Anniversary, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Renovation project, and the Sacred Heart Youth House for summer refreshments.
The Texas Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas Spiritual Retreat and 100th Anniversary will be celebrated together on June 27 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jarrell.
Elected and Installed as Court Officers for the 20262028 term were Regent Marilyn Kothmann, Vice Regent Mary Lou Anderle, Recording Secretary Roxanne Bailey, Financial Secretary Shirley Antosh, and Treasurer Aimee Krause. District Deputy No. 11 Rosa Galipp of Schulenburg was the Installing Officer. On behalf of all the members, Financial Secretary Shirley Antosh presented outgoing Regent Sherry Hebert her Past Regents pin in thanksgiving for her past two years of service.
