Tina Laurie Schmidt Wennermark, 63, of Houston, passed away on March 8, 2022 in Houston after her battle with melanoma.

Tina was born in Green Bay, Wis., on Dec. 24, 1958, the daughter of Gerald and Patricia Bersch Schmidt. When she was young her family moved to the Meyerland area of Houston where she grew up and graduated in the top 10% of her class from Bellaire High School in 1977. She married James Tyler Wennermark, Jr. in 1985, and they lived and raised their family in the Sharpstown and Alief areas of Houston.

Tina was a creative and curious soul, who marched to the beat of her own drum. She enjoyed learning new things: attending different activities through her community center, including square dancing, current events classes, and bus trips to various attractions across Texas. Arts and crafts, growing house plants, spending time outdoors, bird watching, and collecting insects and other natural treasures were among her many hobbies. She enjoyed walking with her dogs and taking them for car rides to the drive-thru for burgers and fries, which she shared with them.

Tina worked as a merchandiser for American Greetings for 15 years, but her last and favorite job was working in her church nursery. She loved people and enjoyed reading and writing letters to her pen pals. Her favorite thing in life, however, was watching her children grow up, get married and have their own children. She always had an open ear and generously opened her home over the years to many people, who needed a place to stay. She spent her last days speaking kindly of the people in her life and about how grateful she was for them.

She is survived by her son, Jeremiah Wennermark; daughter, Sheila Wennermark Shields; parents, Patricia and Gerald Schmidt; four grandchildren: Nora, Nova, Kaitlyn, Terra; and sister, Lisa Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Tyler Wennermark, Jr.

A graveside service in memory of Tina will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 936 FM 2436, La Grange, TX 78945. Reception to follow in the Church Narthex.
