Funeral services for Bernell Teinert, 88 of Giddings, were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda with Rev. Dustin Beck officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Bernell was born on Oct. 10, 1932 and raised on a small farm in Fedor. The daughter of John and Martha (Weiser) Fischer, she was baptized on Oct. 13, 1932 at her home in Fedor by Rev. A.F. Michalk. She attended the one room school in Fedor by walking there with her neighbor friends. Some days she was able to ride the family donkey to school. Bernell was confirmed on April 14, 1946 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor by Rev. Paul Brust. Her confirmation verse was 2 Corinthians 5:15, “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” As a young adult she moved to Houston where she was employed as a live-in housekeeper. She met her husband Marvin Teinert while he was visiting his brother Edwin on her home place. Marvin and Bernell were married on Aug. 31, 1952 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor by Rev. L.W. Karcher. They ate most every meal together discussing the events of the day. Bernell’s family was always her first priority. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. No matter how busy she was, she could be depended on to help where needed. She began her day by milking the cows. During her lifetime she spent many hours picking cotton, chopping peanuts and other farm chores. She enjoyed raising chickens, guineas, geese, and rabbits and was never without a small pup or cat from the animal shelter. There were always baked goods made for family and friends - coffee cakes, desserts (especially dewberry pie), cookies and homemade bread and butter. The cookie jar was seldom empty at her house. An avid gardener, her large vegetable garden was a wonderful sight in full bloom from which she canned countless jars of dill pickles. Her yard was full of random flowers, many from cuttings she snapped off in her daily travels. Talented with needle and thread she was able to salvage many pairs of blue jeans and sew dresses for the girls. She was a lifelong fan of Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and her “stories” - The Young and the Restless and General Hospital. Before bedtime every evening she made time to read her Bible and Portals of Prayer. She rarely missed a church service and made sure her children never missed Sunday school. Bernell was sweet spirited and kind to all and always greeted everyone with a smile. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
