Jill Elaine Stueber, 68, of La Grange, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Jill was born on May 9, 1958, in La Grange, Texas, to Harold and Judy Stueber. As the third of five children raised on a dairy farm, Jill learned early the value of hard work, strong family ties, and an unwavering Catholic faith — values she carried throughout her life.

Jill lived a beautifully diverse and meaningful life, always guided by a servant’s heart. In her younger years, she attended the Immaculate Conception Convent in Victoria, believing she may be called to religious life. Though her path later changed, her faith and dedication to caring for others remained central to who she was.

A proud graduate of La Grange High School, Jill was a member of the La Grange Leopard Band, where she played slide trombone. Music remained one of her lifelong joys. Jill loved singing and playing her guitar and was especially fond of John Denver songs. Her unmistakable voice, beautiful range, and heartfelt delivery brought joy to many and could stop anyone fortunate enough to hear her sing.

Jill first pursued studies in restaurant and hotel management, where her natural gifts for hospitality and cooking flourished. Her love of serving others eventually led her to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, where she discovered her true calling.

Jill dedicated many years of compassionate service as a registered nurse at Fayette Memorial Hospital and later at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. As a nurse, Jill cared deeply for her patients and became a trusted mentor to countless nurses, young physicians, and families. She especially loved supporting women through childbirth and was known for her compassion, wisdom, and fierce advocacy.

Later in life, Jill followed another lifelong dream as owner and operator of Hank’s Express, where she became known for some of the best home cooking in town. Her chicken fried steak, potatoes, and cream gravy became local favorites and a cherished Thursday tradition for many.

Jill was a devoted member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn, where she sang in the choir and lent her beautiful voice to countless weddings and funerals over the years. She was also active in Women’s ACTS and generously served her community through the AMEN Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, and many other local organizations. Jill was known for her generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need — offering meals, prayers, encouragement, and often a helping hand to those facing difficult times.

Jill loved fiercely and gave freely. She had a gift for making people feel cared for, whether through a warm meal, wise counsel, heartfelt prayer, or simply a big hug. Her faith, kindness, humor, and unmistakable spirit touched countless lives and will not soon be forgotten.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Judy Stueber; her sister, Jacqueline Muzny; grandparents, Alvin and Annie Weikel, Bernice Johnson, and Grady Stueber.

She is survived by her loving life partner of 42 years, Mary Behal of La Grange; sister, Janis Janca and husband, Chris of La Grange; brother, Jeff Stueber and wife, Cindy of La Grange; sister, Jennifer Sanders and husband, Jim of La Grange; brother-in-law, Daniel Muzny of La Grange; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She is also survived by her extended family: Gene and Beverly Behal of Georgia; Pat and Clark Leedy of Nevada; John and Terry Behal of Florida; Charlie Behal; Rick and Kelly Behal; and Harry and Erhard Behal, all of Texas.

A Funeral Mass for Jill will be held at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn on Friday, June 12, 2026, at noon, with a meal and fellowship to follow. Prior to the funeral mass, a visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with the Divine Mercy Chaplet recited at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the AMEN Food Pantry, Queen of the Holy Rosary Building Fund, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange.

Jill’s family finds comfort in believing she was welcomed into Heaven by her Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with her parents and sister Jackie. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
