Matthew Robert Siegmund was called to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022.

Matthew was born on March 15, 1976 in Giddings, to John and Eunice (Lorenz) Siegmund. He was baptized on April 14, 1976 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Emil Krugler and confirmed by Rev. Wilbern Michalk on March 24, 1991. His confirmation verse was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” This verse was very special to Matthew.

He was an active member of Immanuel, attending weekly services, serving as acolyte and usher, and very active with the Fishers of Men Evangelism Committee. Pastor Ray Schkade and Matthew became close friends while serving on this committee and visited many people in the community inviting them to church. Matthew wanted everyone to know Jesus.

Giddings I.S.D. is where Matthew attended school and graduated from Giddings High School in 1995. He began his football manager “career” in junior high and served as manager for the Giddings Buffaloes for over 20 years and loved every minute being a Giddings Buffalo.

Matthew was first employed part time at Brookshire Brothers and then B & W Food Store as a sacker and stocker. He always greeted people with a smile and was very helpful, especially to the elderly. His fulltime employment was with the Giddings I.S.D. cafeteria.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Berdie Siegmund and Alfred Lorenz.

He is survived by his parents, John and Eunice Siegmund of Ledbetter; his brother, Scott Siegmund and wife Emily, and nephew Ryan and niece Kate of Ledbetter; his grandmother, Gertrude Lorenz of Giddings, and a host of relatives and friends.

The name Matthew means “Gift of God” and he was a special gift to many people.

Serving as pallbearers were be Brian Fischer, David Fischer, Jason Fischer, Ian Janda, Jacob Janda, and Brian Willeford.

In lieu of flowers, Matthew’s family recommends making memorial contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School, the Giddings Athletic Booster Club, or plant a tree in memory of Matthew.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
