Schertz

Benjamin “Bennie” James Schertz was born on March 2, 1954 to Bennie Albert Schertz and Annie Evelyn Schertz in La Grange. Bennie graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and was a proud member of the class of 1976.

Bennie joined the Knights of Columbus in 1977 and was a very active member. Bennie worked for the Texas A&M Police Department. Following this, Bennie worked as both a Teacher and Driving Instructor at Austin Driving School until retirement. Bennie loved his work and inspired many students. Upon retiring, Bennie began volunteering at CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital.

Bennie is survived by his three children: Allison Ann Martinez, Matthew James Schertz, and Zachary James Schertz, his sister Karen Janda and his brother Allen Schertz.

Visitation was held Wednesday, April 21, 6 to 8 p.m. with 7 p.m. Rosary at Memorial Funeral Chapel-Bryan. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, April 22, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
