Robert (Bobby Joe) Sanders, 76, of Round Top, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.

Robert was born in Houston on Nov. 28, 1944, the son of Harold Irvine Sanders and Ollie (Jobe) Sanders. He graduated from Galena Park High School in Galena Park.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1969 where he served on the USS John Marshall Submarine. He initially reported to San Diego, then attended Fire Control Radar USNTC and Nuclear Power School in Bainbridge, MD and Proto-type training in West Milton, NY. He then attended Lee College in Baytown studying Tech Math and Computer Electronics.

He married Karen Ann Fricke on Nov. 21, 1974 in Houston.

He worked for Atlantic Richfield and Goodyear Chemical for several years. He then relocated to Fayette County and was employed as a classroom teacher, Control Room Operator and Shift Supervisor for LCRA. He retired in 1999 with 21 years of service.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top and was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge.

Bobby enjoyed hunting, fishing, Elvis Presley music and Cajun music. He was fond of watching John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies. He was dedicated to his work, his country, and his family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen Sanders; son, Ronald Clay Sanders and wife, Kim, of Houston; daughter, Kimberly Ann Rodenbeck and husband, Bruce, of Brenham; son, Travis Warren Sanders and special friend, Stephanie Douglas, of Round Top; and sister-in-law, June Fricke Kelm and husband, Rod, of Caldwell; four grandchildren: Lauren Sanders; Landon Sanders; Army PFC Kade Anslee Sanders Lovell and husband, Army Specialist Dallas Lovell; Tytan J. Sanders; two nephews: Derek Kelm and Brent Kelm.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ollie Sanders.

A graveside service will be held at Florida Chapel Cemetery in Round Top at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Lauren Sanders, Landon Sanders, Army PFC Kade Sanders Lovell, Tytan Sanders, Derek Kelm, Brent Kelm, Douglas Knutzen, Tommy Fricke, Harry Schellberg, Clinton Rohde, and Gary Zwernemann.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
