Wernes (Dub) Benjamin Neumann, Jr., passed peacefully on the morning of Sept. 22, 2020 at 87 years old in Charleston, South Carolina after a longterm battle with dementia.

Betty Patricia Neumann, his wife of over 64 years, passed a year earlier on May 28, 2019 at 83 years old in Charleston, South Carolina after a battle with colon cancer.

Both were lovingly cared for by family and caregivers during the last years of their lives.

As a young man growing up in Houston, Dub delivered newspapers where he met Betty Pat, his partner for life. Both being adventurous types, Dub took a pilot’s commission in the USAF after a couple years of college and he and Betty began their 20-year adventure in the military. They moved every couple of years around the southwest US and even spent two years in Morocco, Africa, with their four children in tow.

Years later after Dub’s retirement from the USAF, they were struck with the travel bug again and accepted a four-year teaching assignment in Darmstadt, Germany with the US Department of Defense School System (DoDDS). After fulfilling their lifelong dream of living in Europe, they eventually returned to La Grange, Texas to care for family in the area. Dub retired while Betty continued to teach for eight more years at La Grange Elementary School before she retired in 1996. In 2017, they made their last big adventure together and moved to Charleston, South Carolina to be with family.

Both are survived by four children (and spouses); David (Shirley), Eric, Paul, and Kristina (Trey). They have two grandchildren, Scott and Courtney.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Schulenburg City Cemetery, 1307 Eilers St., Schulenburg, TX 78956.
