Funeral services for Bernice Mueller, 96 of Carmine, were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine with Rev. David Tinker officiating. Burial followed in the Carmine Cemetery.

Bernice Leona (Stork) Mueller was born on Dec. 15, 1924 in Brenham, the daughter of Willie and Annie (Bage) Stork. She was baptized on May 17, 1925 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. William Mueller and confirmed on April 2, 1937 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine by Rev. Henry Brunotte. Her confirmation verse was 1 John 3:1, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”

She was raised on the Stork farm in Ledbetter and received her education in the little one room Prospect School. Bernice began working at the telephone company in Carmine before going to work at the IGA Store in Giddings. After her true love returned home from serving for two years in the Philippines during World War II, Bernice was united in marriage to Elwood Adolph Mueller on Nov. 22, 1947 at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Parsonage in Giddings by Rev. S.T. Schroeder.

After their marriage, they went into the ranching business raising chickens, hogs, and cattle throughout the next 51 years until Elwood’s death on March 9, 1999. Following his death, Bernice continued the business with her two sons. She was an active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine where she had taught Sunday school and was a longtime member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved playing dominoes and 42 with her friends in the Carmine 42 Club.

Bernice passed away suddenly the evening of Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Annie Stork; her husband of 51 years, Elwood A. Mueller; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Virginia Stork; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Delfeal Mueller and Erna and Frank Els; her brother-in-law, Ardell Muske; two nieces, Peggy Simmang and Shirley Hart, and four nephews, Bobby Els, David Els, Billy Els, and Allen Mueller.

Bernice is survived by her two sons, Gary and Bo Mueller of Ledbetter and Gaylon Mueller and Rhonda Craigen of Ledbetter; three grandchildren, Kaci Mueller of Carmine, Cliff Mueller of Houston, and Brandon and Sarah Mueller of Brenham; three great grandchildren, Braxton, Bexley and Brinley Mueller of Brenham; one sister-in-law, Nadine Muske of Brenham, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Mark Mueller, Kevin Mueller, Nathan Mendoza, Bradley Muske, Colt Els, and Chad Proske. Honorary pallbearers will be her domino playing friends in the Carmine “42” Club.

Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine or to the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
