Mitchell
Whitney “Whitty” Emerson Mitchell, age 13, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Fayetteville on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, due to complications related to juvenile epilepsy.
“Whitty” was born on Jan. 4, 2007, in Atlanta, Ga. to Anne Macdaniel Mitchell and Douglas Barron Mitchell, Sr. She is preceded in death by her loving father, who we know is holding Whitney in his loving arms.
Whitney was a fun-loving, old soul who was a friend to many, including all her pets; fish, hermit crab, and bunny. She loved challenging her mother in daily solitaire games and planning family events and parties, creating detailed lists and schedules. Whitney cherished her family summers in Chatham, Mass. and her weeks at Pine Cove Christian Camp. She was eager to start her 8th grade year in La Grange and joining the middle school Leopard’s cheerleading team with her friends.
Whitney is survived by her mother, Anne (Macdaniel) Mitchell; and her loving “family forest” including her brothers and sisters: Tommy Mitchell and wife, Susan, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Alicia (Mitchell) Caruso and husband, Jeff, of Senoia, Ga.; Allison (Mitchell) Landis and hopeful brother-in-law, Alan Watson, of Austin; Haley Landis and Jacob Rauch of Atlanta, Ga.; Frances Mitchell and Douglas Mitchell, Jr. of Fayetteville, and her maternal grandfather, Sherman Paine Macdaniel, Sr. and wife Nancy of San Antonio. Aunts and uncles; Sherman Paine Macdaniel, Jr. and wife Janet, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Sara Macdaniel Bull and husband, Tom, of Marblehead, Mass.; and many adored cousins; Sumner Macdaniel and wife, Amanda of Buda; Miles Macdaniel of Buda; Alex Bull and Lauren Bull of Marblehead, Mass. Adoring late grandmothers: Jane Fox Mitchell and Kendall (Bradshaw) Macdaniel.
Whitney was admired by many for being a loyal daughter and sister who treasured her friendships. She treated everyone equally and loved all with her whole heart. Whitney was a young warrior who never complained about her medications or precautions necessary as an epileptic teen, but rather, she took it all in stride. Her older siblings looked up to her and admired her strength. Although heartbroken, we will keep Whitney in our hearts forever, wherever we go.
The family thanks everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers as they privately pay tribute to their precious Whitney.
