James “Porkchop” Ferdinand Meyer, 69, of Schulenburg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, exactly two days prior to his 70th birthday.

He was born Jan. 20, 1952 to Ferdinand Meyer and Ella Blaschke Meyer. He attended Schulenburg ISD and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, William Roy Meyer; sister, Irene Ella (Meyer) Koopman; brother-in-law, Werner “Johnny” Koopman, Jr.; two nephews, Darrell Koopmann and Werner Koopmann III; and niece, Louise Koopmann.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Cynthia (Malinek) Meyer of Schulenburg; brother, Harvey Joe Meyer and wife Denise of Schulenburg.

Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 24, 2022 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. A Rosary will follow at 9:30 a.m. lead by family friend Kenneth Berger.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 24, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg with Father Isaac officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are nephews, Jason Koopmann of Weimar, William “Bill” Roy Meyer II of Leander, Kevin Karstedt Sr. of La Grange, Dustin Meyer of Schulenburg; great nephew, Nicholas “Nick” Koopmann of Weimar; and family friend, David “Chico” Kalmus of Schulenburg. Honorary pallbearer is KJ Karstedt of La Grange.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to GRMC Hospice or Hospice of South Texas, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg or a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.
