Lehmann
Robert Alfred Lehmann, 95, of Warda went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021 after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Robert was born in Warda on Jan. 8, 1926, the son of Herman and Hulda (Moerbe) Lehmann.
He was baptized on Jan. 17, 1926, by Rev. G. Buchschacher and confirmed on April 2, 1939 by Rev. Paul C. Eifert. Robert’s confirmation verse was “Teach me to do Thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness,” Psalm 143:10.
He was united in marriage to Della Mae Giese on February 8, 1948 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda. Robert and Della Mae were blessed with two sons: David and Doug.
Robert loved people and it showed by the many organizations and offices that he held. He was elected to the Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative Board of Directors in October, 1960. Robert was elected President in May, 1980 and served as such until January, 2002. He retired from the Cooperative Board in 2010, having faithfully served for a half century. Mr. Lehmann led the Cooperative in the transition from analog to digital technology years before the major companies made such investment in rural areas, beginning deployment of fiber optic cable, facilitation of the regional statistical area for provision of cellphone service, making digital satellite television service available in Fayette and four surrounding counties, along with Internet service.
Robert farmed and ranched his entire life. He was a member of the Fayette County Farm Bureau. He served on the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Soil Conservation District. Robert, a lifetime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, sang in the Holy Cross Warda Choir, was a member of the Holy Cross Men’s Club, and held many offices in various church organizations.
Robert loved to fish. He was always happy to fry fish when he had company. Robert loved to talk about the good times he had whenever he and his wife went fishing with family and friends down to the coast.
He was a member of the Warda Community Baseball Team, an avid Astro fan and a loyal Aggie fan due to his brother, both of his sons, grandsons, and granddaughter-in-law graduating from A&M.
One of Robert’s proudest achievements was his service in the United States Army during World War II, 1945-1946. Private Lehmann went to the island of Panay in the Pacific, where he took amphibious training in preparation for the invasion of Japan that was scheduled for November, 1945. He was in a tank battalion that trained on 70 mm guns but the end of the war came in September, 1945. He was then sent to South Korea where he served with the Occupation Forces for a little over a year. His family cherishes the many stories he told of his time in the army and overseas.
Robert is survived by his two sons: David Lehmann and wife, Linda, of Warda; Doug Lehmann and wife, Lorie, of La Grange; two grandsons: Justin Lehmann and wife, Brenda, of College Station; Aaron Lehmann and wife, Cali, of Ridgecrest, Calif.; five great grandchildren: Bailey, Chase, Marley, Adella, and Clay Lehmann; one brother, Fred Lehmann and wife, Grace, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; best friend, Al Bauer; numerous nieces and nephews; along with his grand-dog, Goldie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Della Mae Lehmann; two brothers: Johnny Lehmann (Odell); Arthur Lehmann (Lorine); two sisters: Ruby Summers (John, Woody, Al); and Adelia Zoch (Erwin); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Adella Giese; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leslie and Gladys Giese.
