Leslie J. Kovar, 92, of La Grange peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021.

Leslie was born on Dec. 20, 1928, near the town of Ellinger to Emil A. Kovar and Julia (Kulhanek) Kovar. Leslie married his beloved wife, Georgia Marie Zajicek in Plum in St Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Sept 28, 1952.

Leslie served his country during the Korea Crisis in the Tank Division in Germany for 2 years. Thereafter, he worked for Farmers Lumber Company in La Grange for 40 years.

Leslie was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church along with his wife and a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He was involved in many community organizations including numerous dance clubs with Georgia, the La Grange Evening Lions Club, the American Legion Bowling Association and the La Grange Little League.

Leslie enjoyed dancing with his wife, hunting, fishing, bowling and baseball. He was especially proud of watching his children and grandchildren compete in sports and cherished hunting and fishing trips.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Georgia Kovar; two sons, Steve Kovar and wife, Gina, of Houston, and Mike Kovar and wife, Jana, of Spring Branch; one daughter, Sharon Vinklarek and husband, Mark, of Kingsland; six grandchildren, Crystal Elolf and husband, Rob; Cortney Chastain and husband, Matt; Stephen Kovar and wife, Caley; Kyleigh Cleaveland and husband, Travis; Kaitlyn Kovar; Logan Vinklarek and wife, Aubrey; six great grandchildren, Claire and Julia Elolf; Evelyn and Samuel Chastain; and Cooper and Annie Kovar; and one sister, Julia Ann Kalisek of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Julia Kovar; one sister, Ethlyn Kovar Vasut and a brother, John Kovar.

In an abundance of caution due to the recent COVID-19 operating procedures, the funeral home will be following the recommendations of the Governor and County Judge. The funeral home asks that face masks be worn in the funeral home as well as social distancing up to six feet apart.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 539 E. Pearl St. in La Grange at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery.
