Keeney
Ernest “Ernie” Edward Keeney, 85, of La Grange, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
Ernie was born in Camp Wood, Texas on Aug. 15, 1935, the son of Claude and Mittie (McBee) Keeney. He married Betty Hampton on April 9, 1971 in Aztec, NM.
Ernie worked many jobs in many places. However, he finally landed back home in 1978. He worked for LCRA at FPP for several years as a plant mechanic.
His only hobby was barbequing. He cooked for over 20 years. He cooked with several teams but also had his own team, Blowin’ Smoke. Win or lose, he had many great memories of the companionship and competition.
He also liked to watch his children and grandchildren in whatever activities they were involved in, some band but lots of sports.
He is survived by daughter, Karolyn Reilly-Galbreath and husband, Scott, of Pamona, Calif.; daughter, Stacy Johnson and husband, Frank, of Bastrop; son, Thomas Keeney of Bastrop; daughter, Donna Rohde and husband, Jimmy, of Fayetteville; sister, Claudine Carter and husband, Eugene, of Haley Center; twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Keeney; daughter, Sondra Keeney, and siblings: Erma Lee, Brice and Albert.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden St., La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 89, La Grange, TX 78945.
