Bertha Mae (Seidel) Karstedt, 87, of La Grange, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

Bertha was born in the community of St. John, located near Schulenburg, on July 12, 1932, and is the daughter of Emil P. and Elsa (Miksch) Seidel.

She married Vernon Joe Karstedt, Sr. on August 16, 1950, in Ammannsville.

Bertha was a homemaker and a talented seamstress. She would go above and beyond to help anyone in the community that needed any type of sewing and alternation work that needed to be done. Bertha was also excellent at crocheting and would donate her beautiful afghans for church raffles.

She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and served as part of the church Altar Society for 30 years, along with being a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for 40 years.

Bertha even spent her free time volunteering for Second Chance Emporium and served as Bingo Chairwoman.

Bertha treasured spending time with her family, and watching her hummingbirds outside of her home. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by eight children: Vernon “Buck” Karstedt, Jr. and wife, Lisa of La Grange; Connie Albritton of Bellville; Terry Plata and husband, Bobby of Willis; Elizabeth Oelsen and husband, John of Missouri; Cindy Dippel and husband, Ricky of Round Top; Thomas Karstedt and wife, Kimberly of La Grange; Patrick Karstedt and wife, Shanna of Willis; Jennifer Deutsch and husband, John of Hallsville; twenty-five grand children: Steven Karstedt and wife, Stacie; Kevin Karstedt and wife, Theresia; Verinda Dayton and husband, Greg; Allan Wolff, Jr. and wife, Kathy; Nicholas Wolff and wife, Amanda; Chad Plata and wife, Cheryl; Micheal Plata and wife, Michelle; Joshua Plata and wife, Priscilla; Cory Plata and wife, Nicole; Chantele Watson and husband, Donnie; John Oelsen; Myron Dippel and wife, Myra; Sara Medack and husband, Timmy; Kyle Karstedt and wife, Kara; Brandi Karstedt; Katherine Karstedt; Ryan Karstedt and wife, Darlyn; Ashly Edwards and husband, Jayson; Chase Karstedt; Lucas Karstedt; Jordan Karstedt; Amanda Hickey; Andrew Hickey; John Deutsch, Jr.; and Chas Deutsch; thirtyfive great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchild; her three sisters and four brothers; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Joe “Sonny Boy” Karstedt, Sr.; three infant grandchildren: Joseph, Matthew, and Alana Karstedt; two infant greatgrandchildren: Mylee Dippel and Amaya Oelsen; brother, Harlan Seidel; along with other loving family members.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 25, 2020, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. A Rosary was recited at 6 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations.

Funeral Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery.
