Funeral services for Morgan Ray Karisch, 84, of Winchester, formerly of Jersey Village, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester with Rev. Nate Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 7 - 8 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Friday evening from 5 - 7 p.m.

Morgan Ray Karisch was born on July 26, 1941, in Winchester, the son of Walther H. and Hulda (Noack) Karisch. He was baptized Aug. 3, 1941 and confirmed on March 25, 1956, with the confirmation verse, Revelation 3:11 “I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served as an infantry riflemen during the Vietnam War. During his service he achieved the rank of PFC, receiving the Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Badge, Marksman Badge and was honorable discharge. He met the love of his life Delores Menzel and were united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin on Nov. 25, 1967. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Kristin and Kaelynn. He worked as a Technician for SW Bell for 33 years and he enjoyed his job very much. Morgan had serval hobbies such as carpentry, fishing, farming, traveling in the van with the kids, going to the grandchildren’s activities, watching the Astros, dancing and watching movies. But above all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also part of several organizations such as Smithville VFW Post 1309, Elder for 25 years at Our Savior Lutheran in Houston , and a member of Communication Works of America.

Morgan passed away the evening of Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas surrounded by his family when he went to meet his heavenly father.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walther H. Karisch and Hulda Karisch; brothers, Elton Karisch, Roy Karisch and Leslie Karisch; sisters, Yvonne Koenning, Lera Ephraim, Marian Fritsche.

Morgan is survived by his wife, Delores Karisch of Winchester; daughters, Kristin and husband Richard Laws of Humble, Kaelynn and husband Clint Leopold of East Benard; grandchildren, Brenna VanWinkle, Cade Leopold, Easton Leopold of East Benard and Elisabeth Laws of Humble; sister-in-law, Gladys Karisch of Northup, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Music Fund, Smithville VFW Post 1309, or POCWMA Scholarship Fund.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
