Edward A. Jurek, age 98, of Flatonia passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021.
Edward was born Sept. 10, 1922 in Moulton to Claudie Novak Jurek and Valentine Jurek.
Edward was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 3295 and American Legion Post No. 94. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Force.
Edward is survived by his wife, Merlene Jurek; son, Stephen Jurek (Terri) of Columbus; and daughter, Carol Barta (Randy) of Flatonia; grandchildren, Summer Inman (Chris), Alicia Jurek (Kyle Miller), Diana Jurek, and Justin Jurek; and great grandchild, Hunter Inman.
Edward was preceded in death by father Valentine Jurek; mother Claudie Novak Jurek; brother Fred Jurek; baby brother Vaclav Jurek; sister Mary Syrinek (Lewis); and grandchild Melissa Jurek.
A visitation for Edward was held Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia, with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia officiated by Father Eddie Winkler. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Praha.
Serving as pallbearers were Roy Braden, Jim Jurek, Don Jurek, Robert Syrinek, Kenneth Syrinek and Andrew Syrinek. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Syrinek, Richard Miller, Justin Jurek, Hunter Inman, Chris Inman and Kyle Miller.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Edward to Catholic Daughters of America No. 2570, Hospice of South Texas or American Legion Post No. 94.
