Janda
Alois Anthony Janda, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Alois (Al) was born in La Grange on June 13, 1945, the son of Alois Richard and Edith Bernadette (Janacek) Janda.
Al graduated in 1963 from Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg and from Lee College in Baytown in 1975. He later served in the United States Army Reserves.
Al met Barbara (Bilski) while playing volleyball at St. Anne’s Young Adult Group in Houston. They went to see The Sound of Music on their first date. Al married Barbara on Oct. 19, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham. The couple was blessed with three children: Kimberly, Dana, and Jason.
Al worked for Houston Lighting & Power (Center-Point/Reliant) for 35 years. He took an early retirement to enjoy time with family and at his farms.
Al was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City. He was president of the KJT Society #133. He was involved with the counting committee, an usher, on the Pastoral Council, helped with Fall Festival and was involved in many other service opportunities within the parish.
Al loved farming, splitting time between Brenham and Hostyn, enjoying his time riding on his tractor, hauling hay, tending to his cows and working with his brothers, in-laws, and nephews to take care of the farm projects. Al could fix anything and enjoyed tinkering with many projects. If you needed something, he probably had it in his shed or shop. Al loved spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to support his family, attending numerous sporting events, choir and band concerts, theater productions, and many others. Any opportunity to be with family was treasured. Al was a loyal Houston Oilers, Texans, Astros, and Aggie fan, supporting them through good and bad seasons. Al never met a stranger and often greeted friends and family with the Czech greeting, Jak Se Mas!
Al and Barbara had the privilege of taking many wonderful trips and pilgrimages to places such as the Holy Land, Lourdes, Rome, Czech Republic and Germany. They also enjoyed family vacations to lakes, beaches, and other destinations with their children and grandchildren.
Al is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara ; daughters: Kimberly (Keith) Riebe and Dana (John) Valentino; son: Jason (Teresa) Janda ; brother: Joe Janda; sister-in-law: Patsy Janda ; six grandchildren: Hannah (Garrett) Clark, Elizabeth, John Paul, and Lily Valentino, Margaret and Allison Riebe; two great-grandchildren: Lucy and Leo Clark, along with a host of other loving family members and friends .
He was preceded in death by his parents: Alois and Edith Janda; sisters: Bernadette and Margaret Janda; brothers: Patrick and Edward Janda.
The family is grateful for the support of friends, family, and community who supported Al through prayers, visits, and phone calls.
