Albert A. Jakobeit, 72 of La Grange, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 24, 1948 in Hearne, the first child of Adolph “Jake” Ernest Jakobeit and Adela Marie (Mechura) Jakobeit.

Albert married the love of his life, Connie Lynn Lueders on Aug. 21, 1971 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

He had a degree from the University of Texas in Downhole Drilling and Well Tech, and later graduated from the Commonwealth College as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.

Albert was a jack of all trades. During his lifetime he had numerous jobs: mechanic, driller and pusher in the oilfield, supervisor of commercial mowing crews in Texas and Idaho, funeral director and embalmer at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home, Koenig-Bevill Funeral Home, Tommy Taylor Funeral Home, and several other funeral homes in the surrounding area. Albert always said, “Your job is a reflection of you, do a good job – do it right the first time, and be proud of your work.”

He served as president of Williams Creek Cemetery Association for many years, and up until his passing.

Albert never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything for hours. He was always helping someone, giving great advice - working on their vehicle or house. He always had a big garden and would share the fruits of his labor with friends, family and neighbors enjoying his fresh vegetables. Some of the vegetables made their way all the way to Terlingua, Texas where he and Connie built a retreat. They built a small house where they would escape to whenever possible and many family members visited. He has many dear friends there.

He loved his family and was proud of them. He really enjoyed it when he became a grandpa – he loved camping, fishing, wiener roasts and other activities with them. His heart swelled even bigger when his great-grandbabies arrived. He loved giving them tractor rides and made sure they had a continuous supply of jolly ranchers.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie Jakobeit; brother, Patrick Jakobeit; brother-in-law, Clinton Lueders, Jr.; sister-in-law, Cindy Castello; children, Charles Jakobeit and wife Kellie, Shandell Jakobeit-Schubert and husband Kevin, and Robert Jakobeit, all of La Grange; seven grandchildren, John Crider Jr., Camisha Golding and husband Adam, Jonathan Crider and fiancée Angelica Alvarez, Stephanie Crider and fiancé Nicholas Campos, Draven Reel and Jackie, Emma and Jacob Jakobeit; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Crider, Eliana Crider, Aliyah Campos, Jordan Campos, DJ Reel, Ariel Reel, Elayiana Crider, Meisha Crider and Tyson Crider; nieces, Francis Swainston and husband Eric and Nora DeBoard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Adela Jakobeit; sister, Linda Prather; brother-in-laws, Robert (Bob) Prather and Frank Castello.

Visitation took place Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021 from 4-6 p.m. at the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hostyn Church Pavilion in Hostyn (936 FM 2436). The family requests that guests wear masks and social distance.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Brazos Valley Hospice or Williams Creek Cemetery Association.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fayette Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in La Grange.
