Hunger
Rosalie “Rose” (Zajicek) Wessels Hunger, 89, of La Grange, passed away on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021.
Rosalie was born in Plum on April 23, 1932, the daughter of Louis J. Zajicek and Albina A. (Korenek) Zajicek. She was baptized at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Plum, Texas on April 27, 1932 and confirmed on March 27, 1943. She attended St. Jerome Catholic School and La Grange High School.
Rosalie married Elmond Wessels on June 11, 1951 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. To this union four children were born: Wayne Charles, Wanda Marie, Donna Ann and Dennis Louis. After raising her children to school age, she worked at Lukas Bakery and later at La Grange Tire Center as the bookkeeper/manager. The last seventeen years before retiring she owned and operated an in-home child care service. She enjoyed caring for all of the little ones before sending them off to preschool. Her husband, Elmond, passed away on Dec. 2, 1998 and she continued her day care until she retired in June, 2004. On Aug. 28, 2004, she married William Hunger.
She joined St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oct., 2000 and was active in several church activities, member of the Ladies’ Aid and ushered for funerals at the church. Rosalie was also a member of Sons of Hermann Lodge 238, American Legion Auxiliary, KJZT, VFW Auxiliary and St. Mark’s Medical Center Auxiliary. She also helped at Jefferson Place Assisted Living with church services, Road to Recovery For Cancer Patients and volunteered at the St. Mark’s Gift Shop.
She enjoyed visiting with her family and step family, especially with her great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Rosalie loved to cook for family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas when the entire family got together. She was also an excellent seamstress and enjoyed embroidery. She liked gardening and working in her yard and also loved to read.
She is survived by her husband, William Hunger; son, Wayne Wessels of Bastrop; daughter, Wanda Wessels of La Grange; daughter, Donna Baker and husband, Martin, of Houston; son, Dennis Wessels of Houston; step son, Greg Hunger and wife, Deby; grandchildren: Derek and Amy Wessels; Whitney and Wes Swearingen; Lauren and Blake Johnson; Luke Baker; step grandchildren: Shawn and Amanda Hunger; Alicia and J.B. Cravens; great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Cade and Case Wessels; Carter Swearingen; Bennett, Penny and June Johnson; step-great-grandchildren: Jordyn and Cullen Hunger; Thomas and Christian Cravens; and sister, Georgia Kovar of La Grange along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Albina Zajicek; first husband, Elmond Wessels; infant sister, Angeline Zajicek, infant brother, Faustine Zajicek, grandparents: Joseph B. and Anna (Siller) Korenek; Joseph and Rozalie (Korenek) Zajicek; brother-in-law, Leslie Kovar; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Delton and Ann Wessels.
Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 110 W. Walnut St. in La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank Dr. Blackwell and Dr. Borgstedte, along with the staff at St. Mark’s Medical Center, for the excellent care provided to our mother.
