Richard “A.J.” Frank Gerik, 58, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
Richard was born in Fayetteville on Nov. 7, 1961, the son of Frank and Clara (Janish) Gerik.
He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1980.
Richard was an operator for Leward Anders & Sons, Inc. for five years.
Richard enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and raising his cattle. He was a loyal, dependable and loving man. Simple, reserved and unlike anyone else Richard “A.J.” was a great man who knew how to live life.
He is survived by his son, Michael Dylan Gerik and wife, Tayte, of Georgetown; mother, Clara Gerik of Fayetteville; sister, Joan Gerik of Alvin; four brothers: Thomas Gerik and wife, Shannan, of Columbus; Gilbert Gerik and wife, Julie, of Ellinger; Jerome Gerik and wife, Susan, of Santa Fe; Mark Gerik and wife, Lisa, of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Kyra, Ryker, and Caden Gerik along with five nieces and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Gerik; brother, Michael Gerik; and infant brother, Frankie Gerik.
In an abundance of caution due to the recent COVID-19 operating procedures, the funeral home will be following the recommendations of the Governor and County Judge. Face masks must be worn in the funeral home as well as social distancing up to six feet apart. The church will also require all attendees to wear face masks and practice social distancing.
Visitation was held on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville. A Rosary was recited at 12:15 p.m. followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. Burial followed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
