Ernstes

Leo F. Ernstes, 90, passed away on June 27, 2021.

He was born on July 9, 1930, on a small farm outside of Katy. He graduated from Katy High School and was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Texas A&M as a member of the class of 1952. Active military duty included service in Korea as an officer in a transportation truck company.

A lifelong dairyman, he and his brother Albert relocated the family dairy to Schulenburg in 1964. They ran the dairy business until January 2001. Since that time, the farm switched to a cow-calf operation. Leo enjoyed growing and sharing vegetables and peaches with his relatives, neighbors, and the Schulenburg Food Pantry.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Ernstes; his sister, Mary Ann Ernstes; his brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Mary Ernstes; his sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Bill Sodolak; his brother, Albert Ernstes, and his sister and brother-in-law, Clara and John Guice.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dr. Charles McDonald and his sister-in-law, Mary Ernstes.

Leo considered himself blessed to have a loving family including 21 nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral services were held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg on July 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Visitation was held Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.
