Ehler
Shirley Ann (Rabe) Ehler, 85, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
Shirley was born in La Grange on Nov. 18, 1935, the daughter of Clarence and Delta (Sanders) Rabe.
She married Elgean “Gene” Ehler on Feb. 20, 1955 at Swiss Alp Lutheran Church. They moved to Houston and after 25 years returned to the La Grange area. Shirley worked for a brief time at Lukas Bakery, and later as a Computer Operator for the La Grange Tax Appraisal District. Shirley and Gene shared sixtyone years of marriage together until his passing in 2016.
Shirley was an extremely faithful women and had a heart of gold. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange for a number of years.
Shirley loved dancing, and later took up a hobby with Gene to locate special bridges to share a dance or two on. Their favorite “dancing” bridge was the piano bridge located in Fayette County. Both Shirley and Gene were part of the Swiss Alp Dance Club for many years.
Shirley treasured spending time and occasionally taking trips with her friends. She also enjoyed as a hobby playing dominoes.
On May 5, 2018, Shirley married Richard Tigert. The couple held a special wedding ceremony at Schulenburg Regency.
She is survived by son, David Ehler and wife, Gayla of Schulenburg; daughter, Cathy Bailey and husband, Jerry, of La Grange; son, Randy Ehler and wife, Randee, of Austin; brother, James Rabe and wife, Mary K., of Cuero; sister-in-law, Joyce Velasquez of Flatonia; five grandchildren: Jennifer Larsen, Amy Roman, Dave Ehler, Nick Shipes, and Jason Ehler; nine great grandchildren: Noah Ehler, Emma Ehler, Jace Roman, Ryan Larsen, Jonah Ehler, Bella Roman, Ellie Ehler, Brenlie Roman, and Austin Ehler; and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elgean “Gene” Ehler; mother and father-in-law, Reinhold and Edna Ehler; brother-in-law, Dan Velasquez; and daughter-in-law, Loretta Ehler.
Visitation was held on Monday, May 17, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of La Grange. Family received friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Funeral Services were held at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery.
