Thelma Norma (Backen) Dopslauf, 95, of La Grange, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, June 28, 2021.

Thelma was born in Addicks Fairbanks on Nov. 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Alfred and Ella (Weiman) Backen.

She married the love of her life, Donald Louis Dopslauf on March 8, 1944 at the Addicks Fairbanks Methodist Church.

Thelma was a devoted wife and a mother to her four children: Janice, Donella, Bruce, and Sharon.

She was a member of the Trinity Hill Home Demonstration Club, the Walhalla Extension Homemakers Club, a member of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild, a charter member of the Pilot Club, an active member of the Fayette County Fair Association, and an honorary leader of 4-H. Thelma was recognized as the La Grange Senior Citizen of the Year along with her recognition in 2020 as being a leader on the local, district and state level for over 70 years with the TEEA.

Throughout Thelma’s life, she was a true servant to her family and to her community. She had a heart of gold and was the type of person who never met a stranger.

Thelma’s family and friends will miss her delicious cherry cream cheese rolls that were always made with love. Her family will especially miss Thelma’s loving hugs that would immediately provide comfort and a sense of peace that everything would be alright. The wisdom she has shared with her family throughout the years and the values she has taught them will continue to live on.

She is survived by two daughters: Janice Alexander and husband, Marvin of Brenham; and Donella Dopslauf-Cernosek and husband, Jack of La Grange; one daughter-in-law, Noreen Dopslauf of La Grange; eight grandchildren: Ann Kunkel and husband, Troy of Paige; Jacob Dopslauf and wife, Abby of Brenham; Scott Supak and wife, Kimberly of Chapel Hill; Brian Supak and wife, Rachael of Washington; Chris Supak and wife, Shellie of Brenham; Tara Sims and husband, Brian of Georgetown; Donna Jo Webb-Wessels and husband, Anthony of La Grange; and Cody Webb and wife, Lisa of Jarrell; one niece, Karen Backen and one great nephew, Matt Post, all of of Madisonville; fifteen great grandchildren; along with other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Ella Backen; husband of sixty-one years, Donald Dopslauf; son, Bruce Donald Dopslauf; and daughter, Sharon Gale Dopslauf-Webb and husband, Mark; brother, Milton Backen; sister, June Backen; nephew, Michael Backen; and great nephew, Eric Post.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1214 N. Von Minden in La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021. Burial will follow at the La Grange City Cemetery.
