Mrs. Kermit G. Crenwelge nee Jane Rose Wahrmund of San Antonio passed away on Thursday, April 15 at the age of 86 years.

Jane was born Feb. 23, 1935 in Fredericksburg to Ernst Wahrmund and Ida Weidner Wahrmund, deceased. She grew up in the Tivydale community of Gillespie County and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. She earned her education and graduated from Fredericksburg High School.

Jane met the love of her life, Kermit G. Crenwelge on a blind date in February of 1954 in Fredericksburg arranged by their mutual friend and neighbor. After they met on that blind date, they never dated anyone else. They were married July 22, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg Texas. The wedding ring that Jane gave Kermit was an engraved 14 karat gold ring. Together they chose the song “Slowly” by Webb Pierce to be their special song for the rest of their life together.

During this time, she worked full time for several Interstate Trucking Companies as a bookkeeper. Upon the birth of Melissa, she left full-time employment only to eventually begin her own business keeping mileage and permit records for many Interstate trucking companies. She kept this business well into her 80’s –with client relationships stretching over 50 years. She was a Notary Public for many years. She worked hard but always had the flexibility to work from home and be available for her family. She and Kermit owned and operated a family farm where they raised cattle, sheep, pecans and managed up to 20 honeybee hives.

Jane was active at St. John’s Lutheran Church in San Antonio where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and the Women of the Church. She also became active at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg after Kermit’s retirement. Jane was a member of the Alamo Area Beekeepers Association, the Texas Beekeepers Association and the Texas Pecan Growers Association. Jane was also very active in the creation of the Gillespie County Country Schools organization. A fourth of July celebration was not complete without a firework viewing from the Wrede School.

Jane adored her grandchildren and spent as much time as she could spoiling them. Root beer floats before bed were always available at Granny’s house. A trip to Round Top was not complete until she had played several rounds of Monkey-in-the-Middle. She was so proud of them and attended as many ballet and baseball events as she could.

Jane is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Kermit G. Crenwelge; Melissa Nedbalek, daughter; John David Nedbalek, son-in-law; Abbey Nedbalek, granddaughter; and Austin Nedbalek, grandson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon Wahrmund.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents as well as Leroy Wahrmund, brother; Mollie Wahrmund, sister-in-law; and Elmer Wahrmund, brother.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, April 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Gazebo at the Greenwood Cemetery with Funeral Services at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Priem officiating.
