Bernetta Ann (Schertz) Cook, 86, of Fayetteville passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Bernetta was born in Fayetteville on Dec. 28, 1939, the daughter of Elo and Isabella (Suchadoll) Schertz. She graduated as a Valedictorian in 1958 at St. John Catholic School in Fayetteville.
On Nov. 27, 1958, Bernetta married John H. Cook at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
Bernetta worked for many years in the petroleum industry as a land professional. She also worked 40 years as a representative for Jafra Cosmetics.
Bernetta was a kind and loving person who was always willing to help others in need.
Bernetta was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger. She was also a dual member of the Court Immaculate Mary #2134 in Angleton and Court Father Chromcik No. 1440 Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Fayetteville. She was very active with her husband, John, with the Knights of Columbus organization in Angleton.
She is survived by two sons: Jonathan Cook of Angleton; Jeffrey G. Cook of La Grange and girlfriend, Kristi; daughter, Gerardette Martin and husband, Patrick, of Pearland; granddaughter, Jessica Marie Martin of Austin; brother, Lee Schertz and wife, Bonnie, of Fayetteville; sister, Verline Bennett of Houston, and two nieces: Sheryl Mikush and Wanda McBride.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John H. Cook; infant son, Baby Boy Cook; grandson, Edwin Cook; mother and father-inlaw, Betty and Henry Cook; daughter-in-law, Marie Cook; and nephew, Craig Mikush.
The first visitation was held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange; second visitation was held from 3-7 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger. Family was present to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the church in Ellinger with a Holy Rosary recited beginning at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
