Jimmy “Jim” John Chapman, 75, of Schulenburg, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021.

Jim was born in San Marcos on Nov. 8, 1945 the son of Wilson Paul Chapman and Margaret Joan (Schaas) Chapman. He married Annie L. Weber on Aug. 13, 1988 in La Grange.

He graduated from New Braunfels High School and attended Southwest Texas State University. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969 – 1971 during the Vietnam War.

He worked for GMAC as a Branch Manager. He then worked as an Operations Manager for Ford Credit for thirteen years and retired on March 31, 2005.

He served on the church council at Swiss Alp United Evangelical Lutheran Church, member of the Schulenburg Vietnam Vets Chapter #870 serving as Treasurer, and served as treasurer for Engle Farm Mutual Insurance. He also was a proud 15 year member of the Schulenburg American Legion Post No. 143 (receiving the Legionnaire of the Year in 2018), participated in parades, military funerals, and all aspects of the local Post activities. He led the unit for many years as the Head of the Executive Committee, the lead man in the annual fundraiser, and had provided invaluable knowledge to the unit in making a fundraiser a success.

Jim’s favorite enjoyment was watching his granddaughters play sports. He enjoyed fishing and watching Dallas Cowboys’ football.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Chapman, of 33 years; two daughters: Dawn Jardine and husband, Brian, of Portland, Ore.; Melissa Sommer and husband, James, of Schulenburg; one brother, Preston Chapman of New Braunfels; three sisters: Virleen Moon; Penny Zimmerman, and Agnes Chapman, all of New Braunfels; four granddaughters: Madeline Sommer of College Station, and Jordan Sommer of Schulenburg; Kate Schlegel of New York City, NY and Emily Schlegel of Chicago, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Margaret Chapman; three brothers: Johnnie, Wilson and Herman Chapman; two sisters: Doris Chapman and Helen Mims; father-in-law, Alfred P. Weber.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Services were held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin St., La Grange, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. 2021. Burial followed at Schulenburg City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or Schulenburg American Legion Post No. 143.
