Richard George Cernosek, 92, of La Grange, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Richard was born in Columbus on Sept. 19, 1927, the son of Jim and Daisy (Griffith) Cernosek.

Richard served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947.

Richard married Amalie “Molly” Machala on July 12, 1952, in Plum. The couple was blessed with two children: Chris and Carmen.

Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2574; and SPJST, Lodge No. 106, and KJT. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 67 years.

He was a real estate investor for most of his career. His later years were spent enjoying watching his cows, having an occasional beverage and once in a while, a good lobster tail.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Amalie “Molly” (Machala) Cernosek; son, Chris Cernosek, and wife, Lisa all of La Grange; daughter, Carmen Cernosek of Austin; granddaughter, Bailey (Cernosek) Steinhauser and husband, Matthew of San Marcos; granddaughter, Carrie Binford of La Grange; granddaughter, Chelsea Kmiec and husband Tate of Bellville; granddaughter, Danielle Holzheuser of Bastrop; and grandson, Carson Binford of Austin; brothers: Frank Jack Cernosek and wife, Donella of La Grange; Edwin “Corner” Cernosek of Cedar Park; sisters: Lillie Mae (Cernosek) Tiedt and husband, Weldon of Houston; Rosalie (Cernosek) Stevenson and husband, Kenneth of La Grange. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Daisy Cernosek; sister, Frances Kana and husband, Johnny; brothersin-law, Frank Machala; Edward P. Machala; sister-in-law, Celestine Ermis and husband, Leonard and sister-in-law, Georgia Mae Kana Cernosek.

In an abundance of caution due to the recent COVID-19 operating procedures, we will be following the recommendations of the Governor and County Judge. The funeral home will permit up to 10 guests at one time in the funeral home chapel and asks that face masks be worn in the funeral home as well as social distancing up to six feet apart.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. The family will not be present for the visitation.

A private family funeral service will be held.
