Carmean
Funeral services for Carol Carmean, 79, of La Grange, were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine with Rev. John David Nedbalek officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery in Giddings.
Carol Sue (Weyand) Carmean was born on April 8, 1947, in La Grange, the daughter of Kenney and Annie Lorene (Mischer) Weyand. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Warrenton. She graduated from Fayetteville High School and attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham where she earned her associate degree. On Nov. 23, 1967, Carol was united in marriage to Gregory Jonathan Carmean at St. John Lutheran Church in Warrenton with Rev. Donald Elzey officiating.
Greg and Carol made their home in Giddings where they were active members of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings and leaders of the church sponsored Boy Scout Troop 144 for many years. Carol retired from the Texas Youth Commission in Giddings after 26 years of employment in 2001. She then joined the office staff at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine where she worked for 17 years. As a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Carol was a member of the Rebekah Group and would crochet over 100 neck scarves every year for the church’s Sea Fare service project. She volunteered with Second Chance in La Grange and was a member of the Bluebonnet Master Gardeners for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing and needlepoint work.
Carol passed away the morning of Friday, May 1, 2026, at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenney “Dicky” and Annie (Mischer) Weyand; her husband, Greg Carmean; her parents-in-law, John and Estelle Carmean, and her longtime companion, Ed Eargle Jr.
Carol is survived by her two sons and daughters-inlaw, Troy and Beth Carmean of Round Top and Jason Chris and Stacia Carmean of Carmine; four grandchildren, Levi Carmean and his wife, Kiarra of Round Top, Tiffany Jamail and her husband, Jarrod of Muldoon, Leighton Abell and his fiancée, Patty Clegg of College Station, and Jace Carmean of Carmine; four great-grandchildren, Madelyn Carmean of Round Top, and Carli, Jet and Evan Jamail of Muldoon; her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Frank Johnston of Sealy; sister-in-law and brother-inlaw, Julie and James Risner of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; two brothers-in-law and sisters-inlaw, Bill and Linda Carmean of Giddings and Tim and Brenda Carmean of Huntsville, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Frank Johnston, Eugene Hall, Matt Gray, Levi Carmean, Jace Carmean, and Leighton Abell.
Memorials may be made to the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, Hospice Brazos Valley, the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange or to the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
