Joyce Bayer, 81, of Houston, died Jan. 23, 2021.

Mrs. Bayer was born on July 19, 1939 to Reginald and Alice Hackemack. She was married on Nov. 15, 1958 to Virgil Bayer, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. They were married for sixtyone years before his passing on April 15, 2020.

Joyce was a homemaker her entire life and loved caring for and teaching her children and grandchildren. She cared deeply for her family and was strong in her Christian faith. She was an avid reader and enjoyed good stories and conversation.

Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Paul Gilbert of Houston; son Dale Scott Bayer of Houston; grandchildren, Matthew and Deana Gilbert, Jason and Laura Gilbert of Houston, Londan and Dennis Gaskins of La Grange; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jadon and Jaxon Gilbert, and Dennis Jr., Landon, Greylyn, and Kaehler Gaskins; sistersin-law Marjorie Hackemack, Bernice Guinn, Delores Bayer, JoAnn Bayer and brother-inlaw Raymond Bayer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death is her husband Virgil; son Darrell Bayer; parents, Reginald and Alice Hackemack, and brother Ralph Hackemack.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 at Nassau Cemetery in Round Top with Pastor Mindy Roll officiating.

Visitation was held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
