Margaret Gayle (Kovar) Alford, 72, of Fayetteville entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022.
Margaret was born in Tacoma, Wash., on March 1, 1949, the daughter of Gilbert and Goldie (Forres) Kovar.
She graduated from Leesville High School, Leesville, La. in 1966. Margaret then attended Northwestern State University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While at Northwestern State, she was named Miss Northwestern, was President of her Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, and embraced everything NSU had to offer.
Margaret married the love of her life, Dewey “Buddy” Alford, III on January 16, 1971 at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville, La. Margaret and Buddy were blessed to have shared fifty-one years of marriage.
Margaret was a devoted wife and mother. She dedicated her life to caring for and raising her two sons: Eric and Evan. She was an avid fan and strong supporter of her sons during the period that they played baseball from Little League through high school.
She was an active member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville and served her church for many years as a lector during masses and as a CCE teacher.
Margaret had many talents which included making picante sauce (based on her mother’s secret recipe), and she enjoyed writing poetry. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored. Margaret always placed others before herself and was always helping anyone who needed her help.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dewey “Buddy” Alford III; two sons: Dr. Eric Alford and wife, Katie of Brenham; and Evan Alford and wife, Abby of Houston; two sisters: Mary Schley and husband, Emil of Fayetteville; and Ann Lewis and husband, Deacon of Sugarland; one brother, David Kovar and wife, Nancy of Houston; two brothers-in-law: Dondi Alford of DeRidder, LA; and Ricky Alford and wife, Mary of San Antonio; one sister-in-law: Cindy Alford of San Marcus; and four grandchildren that Margaret adored: Luke and Charlie Ann Alford; and Emma and Madison Alford; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert and Goldie Kovar; father and mother-in-law: Dewey Alford, II and Myrtis Alford; along with one brother-in-law, Terry Alford.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 205 E. Bell St., Fayetteville, with family present at this time to receive friends. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fayetteville, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. Burial will follow at the Fayetteville City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Justin Schley, Kyle Lewis, T Alford, Seth Alford, Nicholas Alford, Colby Havel, Brian Kovar, and Travis Kovar.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Baseball Alumni Association or to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
