2021 Was a Year Filled With Emergencies
2021 was another banner year for Emergency Management, both locally and Statewide. Hopes for a quiet year were quickly dispelled as the February 2021 freeze, later named Winter Storm Uri became the most widespread and costly disaster in Texas history. Every county in Texas was affected, and many lessons were learned. In Fayette County, groups and individuals banded together to help their neighbors in mighty ways. Some nursing homes were without water for over a week, but citizens brought their own water trailers, fire departments filled barrels containers, and local businesses provided all of the bottled water that they had to get through the crisis. The Texas Military Division flew water and MRE’s in on helicopters, and the La Grange Airport was a distribution point for citizens that needed nourishment. Through the efforts we established a more formalized network of incident command that includes community organization and volunteer groups in every phase of the process.
Bastrop Chamber Celebrates Centennial Year
The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its centennial anniversary with a Centennial Gala at the Bastrop Convention Center on Jan. 14. This is an amazing milestone for the Bastrop Chamber, as it is the third oldest Chamber of Commerce in Central Texas and is consistently ranked in the Top 10 of the Austin Business Journal’s Book of Lists.
FCCT Opening Box Office & Studio Space
After five successful seasons, the Fayette County Community Theatre is opening a Box Office and Studio space just off the square. They’ll call 120 S. Washington in La Grange home and plan to offer in-person ticket sales to three plays in 2022, host various workshops and lessons, small open mic sessions, and other performances. “It’s time,” said Operations Manager Heather Barthelme. “We have been selling tickets online, meeting at restaurants and clubs, and we are so excited that we have a space of our own.” FCCT plans to offer space for people to teach art, music, and theatre. “This will be a space for the community to come together to participate, and celebrate the arts,” Barthelme continued. “We welcome input from the community and will strive to meet the needs and wants suggested.” FCCT volunteers have begun to make improvements and move into the space and will host a grand opening event in early February. Machac Makes Deans List at Angelo State University
Angelo State University in San Angelo has announced the students achieving the Dean’s List designation for the 2021 fall semester, including Hailey Machac of Schulenburg. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Hostyn Holiday Noodle Making
Sunday a host of folks from the Hostyn and Plum Catholic churches got together to make a massive amount of homemade noodles.
