The Stanzel Family Foundation has awarded grants to two local nonprofits, Senior Connections and Boys & Girls Clubs of Champion Valley. These funds aim to fortify the operations of both organizations as they address critical needs within the community.

On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 14, the annual commemoration of departed members of the Knights of Columbus, Chromcik Council No. 2574 of La Grange, Hostyn, and Plum, along with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum, and Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 of Hostyn took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange.

In La Grange at the Hospice Brazos Valley, caregivers and loved ones have been meeting for 15 years to support each other as their loved ones face dementia and other conditions. On the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m., Cindy Fanning leads a support group for caregivers and loved ones of those with dementia. On the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m., she leads a group for caregivers and loved ones of those with chronic or terminal illness facing anticipatory grief -- feelings of grief or loss that are felt before the loss actually happens. Fanning says there is a lot of overlap between the two groups, that caregivers of people with dementia attend both groups.

Sunday’s winter chill and north wind did not deter the friends of Fayette County Mediation, LLC, from cleaning up Highway 77 north of La Grange as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program. The team of seven, all members of Sacred Heart parish, hit the road after Mass collecting nineteen bags of trash as well as a variety of other unsightly items, including a smashed VHS player, a license plate, feed sacks, and remnants of tire treads.
