The La Grange Garden Club has been busy this spring. First they spiffed up the Faison House grounds. Next they held their annual caladium and plant sale. Most recently they planted spring flowers in Grandmother’s Garden at the Texas Quilt Muesum.

Sacred Heart School in La Grange competed in the Private School Interscholastic Meet on March 28 in Brenham. Listed below are the events the students competed in and how they did. Students are pictured left to right and front to back with the younger grades in front and the oldest in back. If a plaque is being held in a particular photo it designates that Sacred Heart placed first in points in that competition among all schools.

All four La Grange ISD concert bands earned the prestigious UIL Sweepstakes Award this spring, marking a standout year for the district’s music program. Each ensemble received unanimous Division 1 – Superior ratings from all six judges in both the concert and sight reading portions of their evaluations, held at the Jerry Fay Wilhelm PAC in Bastrop.

After advancing at the district and bi-district competitions, the La Grange High School One-Act Play was not chosen as one of the three advancing plays at the Area competition April 8 in Bastrop. The LHS play was “These Shining Lives” by Melanie Marnich.

Hundreds of Lower Colorado River Authority employees rolled up their sleeves on Friday, April 11, to volunteer on dozens of community projects across parts of Texas during LCRA’s annual day of service, Steps Forward Day.

On April 10, Fayette County Extension Education Association (EEA) members attended the Annual District 11 TEEA Spring Conference hosted by Victoria EEA. Over 50 district members and county extension agents participated in the conference. At the business meeting Membership Certificate Awards were presented and Fayette County member, Donna Burton, will be receiving her 40th year membership recognition. After the business meeting, a workshop on “DIY Succulents” was conducted and members worked on planting their own succulents to take home. Cultural Arts results were announced and an invitation to attend the Fall 2025 EEA Officer Training was extended by the hosting Washington County EEA members. The Stanzel Family Foundation (SFF) is now accepting applications for the Joseph & Victor Stanzel Memorial Scholarship for professionals. This scholarship is designed to support individuals seeking to further their careers through continued education.

Several area kids participated in the Fayette County Junior Livestock Show on March 28. Rheagan Karisch exhibited a steer and placed third in her class. She also exhibited heifers and was Champion American Heifer with KCC Mattie, first in her class with KCC RLK Annabella, and second in her class with KCC RLK Jolene. Reagan also had the reserve champion cake that was an almond poppyseed cake. Rilan Karisch exhibited a steer and was third in his class. He also exhibited heifers. KCC Dakota was third in her class, Martha Mae was fourth in her class, and KCC EJ was champion junior showman.

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center, Inc. met on Wednesday. April 3, at the Randolph Recreation Center. The meeting was called to order by President Phil Oestreich. Member Larry Jackson offered a prayer and Janet Moerbe led the Pledges to the American and Texas flags.
