Owners of the second oldest dancehall in Texas are working to make the prom experience a reality for members of the class of 2020 after the coronavirus made many schools cancel the event. Schroeder Hall, together with several other community partners across the Golden Crescent, announced they will be hosting what they’re calling the “Dancing Under the Stars” event for area high school seniors and their dates early next month. Three nights of events have been scheduled June 4-6 to cater to schools throughout the area. The first two nights have been set aside largely for schools in Victoria, but the final night will be open to seniors at all schools in Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson and Lavaca Counties. This is a free event for high school seniors only.

Bastrop County and 32 other counties across the state were flagged by a watchdog group for violating election laws during the November 2018 general election, violations that Bastrop County officials say have since been remedied. In September, the Texas Civil Rights Project issued a letter to Bastrop County election officials notifying them that a statewide review of county election practices found that the county improperly combined two smaller voting precincts, did not provide the required number of polling places and needed to split up an overlarge voting precinct.

Grimes County Commissioners approved a modified schedule for the 2020 Grimes County Fair on May 27-June 5. A number of events such as the dance, rodeo and Senior Citizen Day were cancelled while others were modified.
