Two Die in ATV Accident

A crash involving an all terrain vehicle claimed the lives of a woman and a boy near Flatonia on Friday, May 15.

According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened around 8:40 p.m. on FM 2762.

The report said a Bulldog ATV driven by 62-year-old Silvester Rosas of Flatonia was heading east on FM 2762. Two passengers were riding in the ATV, 47-year-old Mary Rosas of Flatonia and 11-year-old Jovanni Rosas.

A 2012 Dodge 2500 pickup driven by Emilio Fernandez Martinez, 37 of Flatonia, was also heading east on FM 2762 behind the ATV.

The report said the ATV was driving in the center of the road without any lighting equipment, and that the pickup crashed into the ATV from behind.

Mary Rosas died at the scene from injuries she received. Jovanni Rosas was transported to St. David’s Hospital in Austin where he died the following day.

DPS Trooper Louis Gabler investigated the crash.
